Being Mommy to a Newborn Is...

...finally getting around to eating a rock-hard English muffin that has been toasted three times throughout the day.  And having to eat it cold anyway, because if you toasted it again, you wouldn't be able to bite into it.

...rejoicing at being able to see the veins in your feet again because said appendages are no longer waterlogged.

...trying to nap with your newborn (Child Three) and being joined by Child Two who nurses and falls asleep next to you, only to be pushed aside by Child One who sucks her thumb and holds on to your leg to fall asleep wedged in between you and Child Two.  Mommy wakes up feeling like a Mama cat sleeping with a litter of kittens (but she's thankful that Child One and Child Two are finally getting some rest after this weird week).

...deciding between tweezing stray hairs or loading your iPod with some relaxing music in the time between laying down the newborn and whenever it is in the (very near) future that he will wake up.  (The iPod won.)

...being ready for a nap before 9:30AM.  I'm going back to bed to enjoy my 40 days!

  1. Enjoy your 40 days! It is nice not to have obligations, besides tending to three littles ones, of course.

I hope you are able to find time to eat. Everything is more complicated, as far as timing, with three little ones, but you need to make sure that you have some time to yourself and time to take care of yourself. Not that I should talk because this past Friday was the first time I have been ALONE in almost ten months (since before I became a mother of three). Yup, that's pretty crazy. So don't follow in my footsteps :)

  3. Is anyone bringing you all food? I hope so. This has always been a tradition at church (and at seminary too - lots of babies!).

I wish I were close enough to help!

  4. I agree, try to eat as well as you can! Mothers need nourishment too!

A busy but focused (on baby care) time... blessed rest of your day today!

  5. Don't worry——I'm eating well. That English muffin was just a snack. :)

Both Grandmas are here to help this weekend. And then they'll be switching off for the next couple of weeks.

Normally, my church does meals too. I'm hoping for some after the grandmas go home.

Is it bad that I am looking forward to missing church on Sunday mornings because I get a quiet morning to sleep with my without being pounced on by my older girls? :)

Michelle, over the second weekend during Lent, I went with some ladies from our church to a women's monastery. This was the first time I'd left my kids with Daddy overnight EVER. It was great! And they all survived without me. :) (Even the nursing one!)

  6. I'm glad you were able to get away before the baby was born! I rarely leave my children, so it is a treat when I am able to. Although, I really love being with them, so I am usually torn about leaving them. :) I hope your church will provide meals once your family has gone. That is always such a big help!

  7. Adorable photo! I love how one of your little ones left a figurine next to John--so sweet. I'm happy to hear that you are doing well and that the edema is gone. You and your family are in our prayers during this exhausting, but joyous and blessed time.

  8. Yes, Maggie picked out one of the few "boy" figurines that she has to give to John. She said if he had been a girl, she would have given her Sleeping Beauty instead. :)
